Description

Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) "Buttcheeks"

Dionaea muscipula ‘Buttcheeks’

Dionaea muscipula ‘Buttcheeks’ is a unique Venus flytrap cultivar bred and named by Maxim Dolecki.

What makes ‘Buttcheeks’ so special is the unusual shape of its traps. Instead of forming normal Venus flytrap traps, both sides of the trap curve strongly backward and press against each other. This creates the rounded shape that inspired its funny and memorable name.

Because the traps are extremely deformed, they are non-functional and cannot close or catch insects. For this reason, we recommend foliar feeding to provide the plant with additional nutrients it would normally receive from captured insects. A diluted foliar fertilizer suitable for carnivorous plants can be lightly applied to the traps during the active growing season.

Like other Venus flytraps, ‘Buttcheeks’ also produces energy through photosynthesis, so plenty of strong light is important for healthy growth.

This is a fun and unusual cultivar that makes a great addition to any Venus flytrap collection, especially for growers who enjoy rare and unique mutations.
