Description
Pinguicula ‘Kraken’ 🐙🌈
A Rainbow Carnivorous Plants Original
Pinguicula ‘Kraken’ is a striking and unusual butterwort created right here at Rainbow Carnivorous Plants. Selected for its incredibly distinctive growth habit, this is one of those Pings that looks almost too unusual to be real.
Its long, narrow leaves develop dramatic curves and pointed tips that resemble the twisting tentacles of the legendary Kraken—the enormous sea monster of Scandinavian folklore said to lurk beneath the ocean depths.
And that is exactly how Pinguicula ‘Kraken’ earned its name. 🐙🌊
A Living Work of Art 🌊
The true beauty of ‘Kraken’ is its extraordinary shape.
Under strong full-spectrum lighting, the plant can develop beautiful bronze to reddish coloration, but it's those wild, curved, pointed leaves that really steal the show.
Depending on how you look at the plant, you may see something completely different. Its twisting leaves remind me of the iconic curved hill from The Nightmare Before Christmas. From another angle, their flowing movement can even resemble the powerful curling waves of Katsushika Hokusai's famous woodblock print The Great Wave off Kanagawa.
Sea monster, twisted hill, or crashing wave, whatever you see, Pinguicula ‘Kraken’ has an unmistakable appearance and a personality all its own.

Unleash the Kraken! 🐙
While many Pinguicula are prized primarily for their flowers or coloration, ‘Kraken’ doesn't need either one to demand attention.
Its unusual growth habit is the star of the show.
As the rosette matures, the twisting leaves create an almost sculptural appearance, with each leaf curving in a slightly different direction. Add strong lighting and bronze-to-red coloration, and this Ping can become a truly mesmerizing centerpiece in a collection.
This is definitely not your typical-looking butterwort, and that's exactly why we love it.
A Special Ping From Rainbow 🌈
We work very hard at Rainbow Carnivorous Plants to create, grow, and select some of the most beautiful and unusual Pinguicula we can bring to the hobby.
For us, creating new plants isn't simply about making another hybrid. We look for something distinctive, something that makes you stop, look twice, and wonder, “What kind of Ping is THAT?”
Pinguicula ‘Kraken’ is one of those plants for me.
Its unusual shape, beautiful coloration, and wild tentacle-like growth have made it a very special addition to our collection, and I truly hope it brings as much joy and excitement to your collection as it has brought to ours.
Unleash the Kraken and add something truly different to your collection! 🐙🌊🌈
Happy growing, and thank you so much for all your love and support!
