Description

Cephalotus follicularis ‘OG Black’ is a striking cultivar registered in 2020 by B. Lipinski. The name OG Black originates from the nickname “Original Gangster,” and the plant’s exceptionally dark pitcher coloration.

This cultivar is highly sought after by collectors for its deep, dramatic coloration. Under proper conditions, the pitchers develop very dark burgundy to near-black tones, creating a bold contrast with the plant’s green non-carnivorous leaves. Its unique coloration and rarity make it a standout centerpiece in any carnivorous plant collection, especially for enthusiasts looking for distinctive Cephalotus follicularis cultivars.

These plants are 2–3 year old divisions, well established and carefully grown in our greenhouse under a humidity dome. Because of this, we recommend providing elevated humidity when the plant first arrives to help it acclimate smoothly to its new environment.

For the best results, please follow the care guide and environmental recommendations provided below to ensure your plant continues to thrive.

Humidity is around 65-75%. Please try to give similar growing conditions for at least a few weeks until the plant acclimates to the new environment.

Please read important message below:

DO NOT RE-POT THE PLANT RIGHT AWAY, THIS WILL KILL THE PLANT.

Let the plant acclimate first before trying to attempt this move and try not to disturb its root system, otherwise the plant will suffer a set back.

Please note that Cephalotus change color, from green/yellowish/red or black (when they are exposed to strong lights), depending on the plant you select and it is common to loose leaves and pitchers when new ones are emerging.
